Ingredients

CRUST AND TOPPING
1 cup Simple Truth Organic Brown Sugar, packed
1/2 cup Simple Truth Organic Salted Butter, softened 
1/4 cup vegetable shortening (like Crisco)
1 3/4 cups Simple Truth Organic Flour
1 cup Simple Truth Old Fashioned Oats, quick cooking 
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

FILLING
7 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped
3 tablespoons Simple Truth Organic Flour
1 12-ounce package caramels

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. For the crust and topping: beat the brown sugar, butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl until creamy. Add the flour, oats, salt and baking soda.
  3. Beat until mixed. Reserve 2 cups of the oat mixture. Pat the remaining oat mixture over the bottom of an ungreased 9x13-inch baking pan.
  4. For the filling: toss the apples with the flour in a bowl. Sprinkle the apples over the prepared layer.
  5. Heat the caramels in a small saucepan (or microwave) over low heat until melted, stirring frequently. Drizzle the caramel over the apples and sprinkle with the reserved oat mixture.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until brown, bubbly and apple are tender.
  7. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
