Spicing Up The Sea

Seafood can be pretty intimidating. Once you conquer the hard part of “hooking” the perfect fish, finding a good way to prepare it can be equally frustrating.

If you’re unfamiliar with fish, the finished product may leave you disappointed when your fish ends up bland and flavorless. We’d hate to see your dollars and dinner go to waste!

Making your seafood taste great doesn’t need to be difficult. In fact, you never want to over-season your fish. Less is more, as you still want to taste the great natural flavors of your fish.

One of our favorite ways to add spice is by using homemade dry rubs. Dry rubs add depth of flavor to your favorite seafood. By using a few Simple Truth Organic Spices, you’ll create custom combinations that add bursts of flavor, whether you’re grilling, baking or pan-frying your fish.

The key is to use about three tablespoons of spice rub seasonings for every two pounds of fish. To apply, sprinkle it over your seafood and gently massage the spices over the surface. You could cook the seafood immediately or let the flavors marinate in the refrigerator overnight. You’ll be sinking your teeth into mouthwatering seafood in no time!

Here are some of our favorite simple dry rubs:

BBQ Rub: 4 Tbls Simple Truth Organic Brown Sugar, 2 tsps salt, 2 tsps ground pepper, 1 tsp Simple Truth Organic Dill Weed, 1 tsp Simple Truth Organic Ground Mustard

Spicy Rub: 2 Tbls Simple Truth Organic Brown Sugar, 2 tsps smoked sweet paprika, 2 tsps salt, 2 tsps ground pepper, ½ tsp Simple Truth Organic Thyme, ¼ tsp Simple Truth Organic Cayenne Pepper

Mediterranean Rub: 2 Tbls Simple Truth Organic Oregano, 2 Tbls Simple Truth Organic Mustard, 2 tsps Simple Truth Organic Cumin, 1 tsp Simple Truth Organic Thyme, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp ground pepper

Each spice blend will yield approximately 1/2 cup. Perfect for about 6 pounds of seafood.

Simple Tip: Make a large batch of your favorite dry rub and store in an airtight container for later use.

What’s your favorite way to spice up your seafood?
